Farm holidays in Central Finland with icelandic horses
Purola Farm is located in picturesque countryside by the lake Katajajärvi, close to Saarijärvi, in Central Finland. At Purola Farm you can have a beautiful farm holiday surrounded by pristine nature and icelandic horses.
The farm offers comfortable B&B accommodation and holidays filled with activities as well as great surroundings for small conferences, seminars, meetings and parties. Horses are obviously an important part of the farm’s life – riding tours, lessons and trail riding are available. Other activities include swimming, fishing, picking berries or mushrooms, hiking, cycling, enjoying sauna, skiing, ice-skating, snowshoe walking, feeding animals, helping in the farm work, playing a bunch of yard games and canoeing or rowing a boat on the lake.
Sustainability is one of Purola Farm’s core values. By careful planning, the energy needs of the farm are minimized. Recycling, composting, using local and organic products as well as using solar panels are some of the everyday actions for ensuring sustainability.
Icelandic horse riding tours, peat treatments and other activities
Our main aim is to offer well-being, adventure and fun in respect of nature in the peaceful environment of Purola Farm. You may choose among a multitude of activities, riding (all year long), swimming, fishing, picking berries or mushrooms, walking, Nordic walking, cycling, enjoying sauna, skiing, ice-skating, snowshoe walking, feeding animals, helping in the farm work … or just relax and take it easy. Kids can run around at their ease, no traffic! The whole area is somehow a big playing ground with a small football field, a badmington field, petanque game, mölkky, frisbee-golf, table-tennis …
In summertime you will enjoy the small beach at the lake with fire place, beach sauna, 2 rowing boats and a canoe.
In winter time we prepare with our snowmobile a 5 km long skiing slope starting at the guest house door and leading through the unique winter scenery of Purola Farm (with an existing connection to the local skiing tracks of Pajupuro with grilling possibility at the Kota).
4 pairs of snowshoes are at your disposal (free of charge)
Kids can enjoy a short cross country slope (about 100 m long) or try the small sledge hill and have fun in the snow!
On top Saarijärvi region offers a multitude of leisure activities; downhill and cross-country skiing, swimming pool, amusement park for children, museums, concerts, Kukonhiekka dancing place in summertime, walking paths in nature parks…
For all canoeing fans we recommend the Saarijärvi Rapids, part of the 82 km long Saarijärvi whitewater route with 22 rapids, rivers and lakes. Another option is the ”Seven Lake Paddling Route”.
Social pedagogical horse activity
Socialpedagogical horse activity emphasizes experience, adventure and community. Horse activities at the stable help learning communication skills, recognize and deal with emotions and moods. It is suitable for those who are marginalized and under threat of social exclusion. Activities centered on the horse and his well-being provide structure and activities through which things can be projected to one´s life, such as food or hygiene role. Working with the horse is an empowering experience, where one can get more happiness, strength and courage to everyday life.
Pipsa has completed the Social Pedagogical horse activity education at South Ostrobothnia Folk High School in 2012.
Guesthouse B&B
Purola Farm´s Guesthouse has six, high standard and comfortable rooms for 18 people in double, triple and quadruple rooms. Upstairs are four spacious bedrooms, two of which have lake view and a shared balcony and two rooms with a romantic gabled window. Two shared bathrooms are at your disposal.
On the ground floor there are two comfortable bedrooms, a living room with a kitchenette and a sauna department. The downstairs rooms can accommodate with a quiet and tidy pet.
In Purola you may spend one night or even a week, alone, with the family or a group.
The delicious rural breakfast with our home made fresh organic bread and cosy wood-fired sauna, in the guesthouse or on the beach, and bed linen, are always included in the price.
On demand it is possible to have half-board in summertime and weekends. Dinner is prepared as far as possible from local and organic food.
