We have operated for over 30 years as a producer of activity services and as a destination management company (DMC). We are highly experienced producers of revitalising Arctic nature’s cold experiences and organisers of exclusive trips that respect the locality through our own service brands; KylmämaaKuura, KylmämaaMetsä, KylmamaaLoiste and LappeanLohi.

We are a Lappish, family-run business with two generations of experience in organising wilderness experiences in nature. We know Lapland and want to share our knowledge and tales with you, in order for you to receive the utmost once-in-a-lifetime experiences and heart-warming atmosphere in the Arctic conditions here in the north.

We operate in Northwest Lapland in the areas of Ylläs and Lappea. Our base in Ylläs is our Safari House in the Ylläsjärvi resort, Hotellintie 4. We also operate throughout the year at Lappea, on the shores of the Tornionjoki River, Lappeantie 251. We are also a local DMC (Destination Management Company) and we provide almost everything you need for your holiday, starting from transportation and accommodation.

LappeanLohi is our customers’ own wilderness destination, set on an embankment of the naturally picturesque River Tornionjoki, flowing wild and free, and full of fascinating stories from history.

Tight lines on Lapland’s salmon river

LappeanLohi is located on the shore landscape of Lapland’s most important salmon river, the River Tornionjoki, set by a confluence of two free-flowing rivers teeming with fish. Our guests returning year after year appreciate Lappea’s laidback communal spirit and considerate service. Expert instructions and assistance are provided by our enthusiastic salmon guides.

Peaceful meetings in a relaxed atmosphere

The tranquil location and close to nature ambiance of LappeanLohi offer meeting participants a relaxed and undisturbed meeting environment. Our meeting facilities offer a venue for larger meetings of up to 80 participants. Our meeting space can be equipped with a projector screen, data projector, photocopier and flipchart.

Meals and programmes for the meeting are arranged professionally, and everything is nearby. You can depart on a memorable boat trip from the LappeanLohi jetty to explore the unique landscapes of the border river, or stay on the river embankment to enjoy the hot, yet gently pampering steam of the traditional smoke sauna. Wintertime is also full of activity – the snowmobile route departs direct from our grounds, and we can even arrange huskies to entertain our guests.

Charter transportation

Charter transportation is provided with Kylmämaa. We arrange transportation starting from airport transfers. We are also a registered tour operator. We arrange tours in Finland and abroad.

Smoke sauna in Lappea

The LappeanLohi smoke sauna is located in a naturally picturesque site along the Tornionjoki and Muonionjoki rivers. It is a historically important building, as following the war it served as a bathing place for almost the entire village of Lappea, because almost no other buildings survived. The riverside sauna next to the smoke sauna has dressing rooms and washrooms. The smoke sauna experience is highlighted with dinner at LappeanLohi. Please ask for more dinner alternatives from our sales team.

Savouring Lappish cuisine

Perfecting any holiday experience is savouring delicious local cuisine. Our restaurant services focus on locality and creation of ambiance. A sprinkling of mysticism and local tales will help you internalise the feeling of freedom. This is Kylmämaa.

Restaurants and smoke saunas are now available for hire by companies and private groups.

HaltiaKammi, the mystical earth lodge restaurant in Ylläs

Haltiakammi Restaurant is located in the village of Hannukainen in Ylläs. As its name suggests, the building is partly below ground, and has an entrance lit with lanterns. Haltiakammi’s mystical atmosphere is made by the 32 peculiar elves based on Lappish mythology. The smallest of these characters is only about the size of a kitten, whereas the largest almost covers the back wall. Haltiakammi serves lovingly prepared Lappish delicacies, the high standard ingredients of which represent the prime of local produce. Haltiakammi is a unique venue for festive events. Haltiakammi takes up to 88 diners.

Intimate and private restaurant Kivinavetta in Ylläs

The stone-built barn named Kivinavetta is a pleasant and intimate private restaurant seating 24 diners in Hannukainen, close to Äkäslompolo. Within the ambiance of the great stone walls is a cosy place to savour the demonstrations of culinary skills produced by the Chef.

The giant fireplace at the end of the dining hall not only creates a great atmosphere, it is used for preparing meals. There are a number of meals to choose from Lappish delicacies to ocean delights. High quality ingredients are acquired from the local hunters and fishermen, and wild mushrooms and berries from local pickers. Pure Lappish ingredients combined with the chef’s professional skills guarantee culinary enjoyment, satisfying even the most discerning of diners.

We provide accommodation in hotels, apartments, private cabins and camping grounds throughout the Ylläs and Lappea regions. We can also arrange transfers between the airport and railway station and your preferred accommodation.

Accommodation in Lappea

Rooms

Lappea has plenty of different accommodation to choose from. The newly renovated main building has 12 individual rooms that can comfortably accommodate a busload of guests. The sizes of the rooms vary from a single room up to a room sleeping four persons. By combining rooms, it is even possible to accommodate a larger group in the so-called family room. The guests have access to clean showers and toilets in the corridor and household linen is included in the accommodation rate. The apartment located in the old school accommodates a family or larger group of friends (5 + 2 persons). The apartment has a private toilet, shower and kitchen, and two separate bedrooms. The accommodation rate for the apartment also includes household linen.

Cabins

The open grounds of LappeanLohi holds nine cabins of various sizes. All cabins have a refrigerator, hob and crockery. One of the cabins and both apartments of the semi-detached cabin have a private toilet and shower. The accommodation rate for higher standard cabins includes household linens, but guests staying in other cabins can hire household linen from reception. All accommodation rates include daily use of the sauna.

Camping

You can also come to LappeanLohi with your own mobile home or caravan and stay on a plot with electricity. People camping in tents can also find a suitable spot on the lawn.

Cabins in Ylläs

Keloluppo

Homely duplex apartment located in the Ylläsjärvi village in a peaceful Palovaara area. Keloluppo has a total area 52 + 17 m² and it is for 4 (+2) persons.

Living room with open kitchen (bar table as s dining table + 4 stools), 2 bedrooms (other with a double bed and other with a bunk bed), loft (17 m², low room height) with 2 mattresses, electric sauna, shower, separate toilet. Equipments: fireplace with firewood, washing machine, drying cupboard for clothes, iron, vacuum cleaner, electric stove, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, coffeemaker, electric water kettle, toaster, microwave oven, barbecue, 2 x TV, cd- and dvd player, radio, travel bed for a child and potty.

Ahmola

Ahmola is located in Nilivaara in one of the best areas in Ylläs. Cottage Ahmola has area of 358 square meter with 8 double rooms, spacious living room and well equipped kitchen. All rooms have their own toilet and shower.

The wide terrace of Ahmola opens towards Ylläs and the opening landscape is breathtaking. All sleeping rooms has their own toilet and shower. Sauna department is comfortable and big enough for a larger number of people. In the kitchen can be found dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer. Ahmola is excellent place for business groups, family celebrations or just for groups wanting a little luxury for their holiday. Bed linen and towels are included to the price and beds are made ready.
