Accommodation, celebration, and meeting services in Punkalaidun

The Sarkkila museum school, located in the village center of Punkalaidun, was built in 1874 and is the oldest rural elementary school in the region. School operations ended there already in 1971, and the protected Jugend-style building stood empty for a long time until Hanna-Riitta and Sakari Pärssinen purchased and fully renovated the property in 2000.

Today, the school serves as a venue for accommodation, celebrations, and meetings. The authentic old-time atmosphere and original school-related artifacts make the place truly unique in character.

We don’t offer luxury or a showroom decorated with designer furniture, but rather a cozy and down-to-earth setting for hosting your events. We also provide catering for your celebrations, and the meeting facilities are equipped with the necessary technology. Overnight stays are also possible: the building features accommodation for 12 people in a four-bedroom apartment with a shared kitchen and living room.

Rental cottages, meeting sauna, and activities

We also accommodate travelers in our four-cottage village at Porttikallio, as well as in the Passimökki cabin located in Yhivuori. In addition to the four cottages at Porttikallio, the area includes a group sauna with an adjacent meeting or social space suitable for smaller groups. The surroundings offer various outdoor activity options such as golf, paintball, disc golf, observation towers, river barge cruises, hiking, skiing, and more.

Excellent outdoor terrains are nearby, as well as a top-quality athletics field and a biathlon stadium.

Active holiday in Punkalaidun

Koulutintti’s cottages offer accommodation in Punkalaidun, a municipality of about 3,000 residents located in the Pirkanmaa region. Here you’ll find a wide range of activities to enjoy both in summer and winter.

At the municipal sports field, you can test your throwing arm — Seppo Räty (successful Finnish javelin thrower) once launched a javelin an incredible 96,96 meters on that very field. In the summer, the Porttikallio Sports Center offers excellent opportunities for jogging, Nordic walking, or mountain biking on well-maintained outdoor trails. At the Kesälaidun 9-hole golf course, everyone can enjoy a round — even without a green card. Equipment can be rented on-site. And if traditional golf isn’t your thing, you can always try disc golf on the 9-basket course.

Koulutintti’s own activities

Koulutintti’s private river raft can take 10–15 people at a time on a peaceful “cruise” along the river. Surrounded by nature, it’s the perfect place to enjoy light snacks and even start a sing-along. The same river also offers an excellent training ground for canoeing enthusiasts. Guests can also enjoy guided birdwatching tours, deer hunting, or berry and mushroom picking. There’s plenty of forest around, so you’re welcome to head out on your own as well.

Winter activities

The Porttikallio Sports Center offers great opportunities for outdoor activities in the winter, too. It features a biathlon stadium with well-maintained ski tracks. The competition tracks provide a real challenge even for experienced skiers. For a more relaxed pace, there are easier trails — depending on snow conditions. The competition area usually has good snow coverage thanks to artificial snowmaking when needed. Skis and boots are available for rent upon request.

Paintball in the forest

Companies or bachelor/bachelorette parties often enjoy paintball, which we organize in the forest near our Passimökki cottage in Yhivuori. The area includes a traditional hut, a tent-style smoke sauna, and a small pond for a refreshing dip after the game.

A dancer’s favorite destination

Punkalaidun also has a traditional dance pavilion where the famous Wednesday dances are held, featuring well-known Finnish artists. The pavilion itself is a sight to see — it stands on a peninsula in the middle of the beautiful Vehkajärvi lake. People travel from afar to attend these dances, and when they do, accommodation is in high demand.

Meetings and celebrations

Koulutintti offers a cozy and atmospheric venue for 60–80 people at the Sarkkila Museum School for your celebrations or meetings. For corporate events, we tailor easy all-in-one packages that include the space, catering, and necessary technical equipment. If you’re looking for a smaller space to meet, the Porttikallio sauna is a perfect option. The lounge area comfortably fits around 20 people, and the group sauna features two separate dressing and washing areas.

Family celebrations and gatherings

The celebration space at Sarkkila School has hosted many kinds of events, from christenings and confirmations to birthday parties, memorial services, and class reunions. And what could be a better place for reconnecting with old schoolmates than a real former school?

We can also provide catering for all occasions. The old school harmonium and a grand piano from 1875 still stand in the space, ready for musical performances.

Corporate events

Companies have used the Sarkkila Museum School for meetings, well-being days, and training sessions. In addition to modern technology such as Wi-Fi (and a projector available for an extra fee), we offer classic tools like an overhead projector, flip chart, chalkboard, and even an abacus. The Porttikallio sauna facility is also ideal for business use.

Convenience is key for corporate clients, and we’re proud to offer full-service packages from a single provider. Looking to add some lighter activities to your program? How about a round of golf, frisbee golf, or a paintball session?

Contact us and we’ll tailor a package to suit your company’s needs!

Cottage rentals

We offer five different rental cottages in Punkalaidun. All five cottages are available year-round, and some are equipped with both electric and wood heating. The largest cottage accommodates up to 10 people, two medium-sized cottages each host up to 8 people, and the two smallest ones accommodate 5 people each. All cottages feature a sauna, and two of them have the special feature of an infrared sauna!

Passimökki

Passimökki is located in a peaceful, rugged setting on the shore of a small, dark-water pond. It is an electrified forest cottage available all year round, with easy car access. The yard includes a covered campfire area and a dammed pond for swimming. The cottage comfortably accommodates 6–8 people. It has a wood-heated sauna with a shower. The downstairs living area includes a kitchenette with a dishwasher, fridge, and microwave. Sleeping quarters are located in the loft. There is an outdoor toilet and a separating dry toilet inside, mainly intended for children and nighttime use, especially in the darker seasons. Bed linen can be rented separately. A covered campfire area is located in the yard.

From Passimökki, you can easily reach a small cottage built on a high hill and our traditional hut (kota) with a barbecue area. Next to it, there is a tent-style smoke sauna and a small pond. We also organize paintball activities for groups — such as bachelor or company parties — by request. The area can also be rented separately.

Porttikallio cottages

These inland cottages are located right next to the Porttikallio Ski and Outdoor Center. The area includes four rental cottages and a separate sauna building with gathering space (available for rent separately). The cottages are well-equipped: the larger ones feature wood-heated saunas, while the smaller ones have infrared saunas. All cottages are fitted with separating composting toilets. They include a ventilation extractor to ensure no odors enter the indoor air.

The cottage area includes a trampoline and a swimming pool, both available for all cottage guests to enjoy.

The location is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts: in the summer, jogging and mountain biking trails start right nearby. You can also take trips to berry forests or birdwatching towers, enjoy a river barge tour, play golf or disc golf, or go canoeing. In winter, you can step directly onto the illuminated ski trails from your cottage. The area has hosted major competitions, so the terrain includes some more demanding slopes as well.

You’ll also find a biathlon stadium and a snow cannon, which ensures snow even when it’s not falling from the sky. The popular “Mummolatu” cross-country ski trail passes right through the cottage area — just strap on your skis and go! A barbecue hut located within the ski center grounds is free to use for everyone.
