At Ilomäki farm, we offer our guests cosy and comfortable cottage accommodation, beautiful nature, Finnish traditions and plenty of peace and seclusion all year round, near the city of Seinäjoki in western Finland.

Just the experience of staying on a real, working farm is enough to make the visit truly special for our guests. If you’re looking for more to do, however, many local attractions are within easy reach of the farm – including amusement parks like Powerpark and the Dudesons Activity Park. Ähtäri Zoo also offers the chance for you to get face-to-face with a wide range of Finnish animals. Thanks to our central location, the farm is ideally placed for exploring the wider region, and you can always count on a warm welcome when you return to the farm after a busy day of sightseeing and adventure.

Activities and animals

There are plenty of opportunities for laid-back fun for both families and small groups, from nature walks and outdoor games to enjoying an authentic Finnish löyly in the sauna.

Activities at the farm

There are two forest trails on the farm’s grounds, measuring 1 km and 3 km in length. Along the forest trail and a barbecue shelter, both of which guests are welcome to use. You can also forage for berries and mushrooms during the right season. The floodlit Koukkari running and ski trail is located 4 km away, offering routes ranging from 1 to 5 km. A 1,500-metre long-distance ice skating track is also available 6 km away.

We have snowshoes available for guests to use on the farm, as well as a variety of games. In the winter, we have “vipukelkka” – a kind of a sleigh version of a merry-go-round which is a firm favourite with the children. There is also a range of toys and games available for children, including buckets and spades, swings, ride-on toy tractors, hobby horses and even a toy cow which is perfect for practising your milking technique!

The hosts can give you a ride on a tractor or a buggy, or teach you the art of axe throwing. You won’t get bored – there’s always something to do, no matter the weather. As in most Finnish homes, most of the cottages have their own saunas.

• In winter, you can go skiing, take a hike with snowshoes, or defy the freezing temperatures by enjoying a hot tub bath under the stars and moonlight.
• In spring, you can witness how nature awakens after the long, cold winter.
• On sunny and warm summer days, enjoy bike rides or try a round of disc golf on the farm’s eight-basket course – and don’t forget to make the most of our magical light-filled summer nights.
• In autumn, you can delight in nature’s gifts by picking mushrooms and wild berries in the forests.

Farm animals

Our experience has shown us how important spending time with our animals is for some of our visitors. We do our best to make it a memorable experience, especially for the children visiting us. In addition to our family and guests, Ilomäki farm is home to horses, sheep, rabbits, cats and a dog.

Peräseinäjoki and local area

The centre of Peräseinäjoki (with shops, a pharmacy, restaurants, a service station and a church) is 4 km from the farm, and the city centre of Seinäjoki is 30 km away. There are many interesting places to visit in the area.

The holiday centre of lake Kalajärvi, 6 km (restaurant, beach, mini golf, winter skating trail, rowing boats).

A visit to Ilomäki is a chance to immerse yourself in authentic rural life: breath in the scent of fresh hay, meet the many animals living on the farm, and enjoy the unhurried pace of countryside living.
